The social process of forming opinions on the issues of nanotechnology is underway. A broad public discussion takes place in different areas, eg in the dialogues of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Policy and experts are aware that a technology such as nanotechnology that reaches far into the future and affects so many areas of everyday life has to be examined early on its acceptance in society as well as citizens should be integrated in dialogue processes.
Germany:
NanoDialogue of the German Government. Experts from industry, academia, governmental agencies and non governmental organisations deliberated and discussed the chances and risks of nanomaterials. End of 2006, the German Federal Government’s NanoKommission was appointed, which was headed by retired state secretary Wolff-Michael Catenhusen.
