French Report Nanomaterial Registration Scheme “r-nano”

The French Ministry for the Environment, Energy and the Sea has released its latest Report of the National Nanomaterial Registration Scheme, 'R-nano'. The report analyses the results of the registration of nanomaterial substances imported, manufactured or distributed in France in 2014.

According to the report, 300,822 tonnes of nanomaterials were produced in France and 114,951 tonnes were imported into the country in 2014. After a strong (-19.6%) drop in registered amounts between the first (2012) and second year (2013) of implementation of this reporting scheme, the registered amounts were seen to increase in 2014. The report underlines a 9.5% increase in the amounts produced in France as well as a continuous decrease in the amounts imported in the country since the register was put into place.

The number of registrants and registrations continued to rise in the third year of application of the scheme. Distributors represented the largest share of registrants (81.8%), their third straight year of continual growth. The French Authorities believe this increase demonstrates how 'information on the obligation to register takes time to spread along the distribution chain'.....
